The first in a series of sharing customers' questions. This customer was looking to fit a building into a very tight space.
Dear Garden Affairs, we need extra space for an art studio. Our house is bursting at the seams, and my husband is fed up with me leaving all my art materials out on the kitchen table. We are looking for a construction that can be placed very close to a garden boundary because our garden is tiny! I know a lot of garden buildings have to be half a metre from a boundary because of roof overhangs, which makes them unsuitable.
We want double glazing and insulation and electrics. Is there a solution you can suggest which solves our problem? We need about 3m x 2.5m with a flat roof under 2.5m to comply with planning regulations.
For your garden, we recommend a building from our Linea range. The Linea range is a very attractive, contemporary design and is ideal for placing close to a boundary wall because it has no roof overhang. The Linea buildings are constructed from larch wood a very durable timber that performs like hardwood, therefore requiring little to no maintenance once installed. The building has pre-fabricated walls, meaning that it can be installed from the inside out (in other words our installers won't need to stand in your neighbour's garden to finish the building!) You can also opt to have our Linea range pre-painted or stain-finished at the factory level from a wide range of colours.
Another benefit of these buildings is that they don't normally require planning permission because they have a flat roof of 2.5m high, meaning you can place them close to your boundary.
The buildings benefit from being insulated in the roof, floor and walls, meaning they can be used all year round. We can offer either first-fix cabling ready for your electrician to finish or full electrics with our qualified electrician (connection is quoted on-site). Electrics offered to include heating, lighting and power, we also offer data cabling and a range of heating options.
We can quote you for a 3.5m x 2.5m building; all you will need to do is decide on the style of doors/windows you would like. We recommend a visit to our display centre to see the wide variety of options available.
Above is an example of a Linea building 3.5m x 2.5m (can be made 3m x 2.5m) offering plenty of natural light for your art activities from the glazed door/window to the front elevation. The customer opted for a pale grey stain and white doors/windows.
