Mix business with pleasure in a Garden Affairs garden office and games room
Finding extra space for a home office is a challenge. At some point in their careers, most self-employed people have had to occupy a bedroom, slot in under the stairs, or colonise the kitchen table. Short of building an extension, the options for homeworking tend to be limited and far from satisfactory.
And when you add kids into the mix, with their increasingly indoor lifestyle of surfing, streaming and gaming, things in the home can get pretty crowded.
At Garden Affairs, we see the garden as the go-to way to add space to the home. We do it through a range of high-quality, bespoke garden buildings. So when a work-from-home dad with two sons came to us for some ideas on how to combine an office for him with a chilling space for them, we immediately rose to the challenge.
Our client wanted a garden office to run his training consultancy from, with enough room for his computer system and screens, desk and chair, storage cabinets and shelving for his business-related literature.
Unusually, he didn’t want the new building to be his exclusive domain. This wasn’t going to be a man-cave to shut himself away in. He wanted his sons to share the space with him and with their friends: a place for them to relax and get away from their studies - and do some serious gaming. The building would need to be comfortable all-year round, whatever the weather.
Take a look at what we came up with: a log cabin, with 44mm timber, fully insulated and double-glazed.
Painted in a bright blue, the building has a fresh, contemporary look. The porch area offers shelter (and a place to kick off shoes), as well as adding to the architectural look. Two sets of double doors, a large picture window and a skylight mean plenty of light inside.
The 5m x 4m log cabin offers plenty of room for a multi-screen, two-desk workspace. There’s loads of natural light from double doors and skylight, and the shelving is elegant and space-efficient.
The Fab Four keep an eye on business from the comfort of the chill-out area. Maybe they’re listening to one of their own tracks through the wall-mounted speakers.
The pitched-roof design gives a vaulted ceiling and a great sense of internal space. The flexible and modern lay-out offers ample scope to work, play and entertain clients.
It’s tough to wean yourself off the XBox when you’re up against top-of-the-range kit, super-cool wall-art and a sophisticated blend of traditional and modern furniture.
This beautifully presented garden building has it all: on-trend colours and furniture, a massive sofa, and a special place to hang your rucksack. Note the baskets of cuddly toys – we’re all kids at heart.
We’ve used breathable timber throughout – so no worries about possible condensation damage to the collectible art, furniture and fabrics.
There are so many benefits to combining a garden office with a space to relax and hang out with the rest of the family. A Garden Affairs garden building is an affordable, high-quality way of maximising the potential of your outdoor space, and creating something new and inspiring. We’ll help you choose what’s right for you then make it your own.
